Following Push from Hinson & Iowa Delegation, USTR to Launch Formal Talks with Mexico on Corn Exports

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the following statement on U.S. Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, formally launching talks with Mexico over their decision to limit imports of genetically modified (GM) corn. Hinson and the Iowa House delegation sent a letter to Representative Tai in December urging action on behalf of Iowa's corn producers.

"As soon as Mexico announced their intention to limit GM corn imports -- in direct violation of the USMCA -- I joined my colleagues in urging the U.S. to engage on behalf of Iowa corn producers. While I'm glad to see USTR finally taking this step, they must follow through to ensure Mexico upholds their end of the USMCA to keep this critical market open for Iowa farmers." - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
