Hinson Applauds Senate Passage of Sgt. Ketchum Rural Veterans’ Mental Health Act

June 25, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) applauded Senate passage of the Sgt. Ketchum Rural Veterans' Mental Health Act. Hinson is the Republican lead on the bill. She helped introduce and fought to advance the legislation alongside Congresswoman Cindy Axne (IA-03) as an original co-sponsor. This legislation will now head to President Biden's desk for his signature.

"Not every war wound is visible, and no veteran should be denied the  care they need after serving our country,"  said Congresswoman Ashley Hinson. "Sergeant Brandon Ketchum was turned away when he sought help for post traumatic stress disorder after serving overseas. This bipartisan legislation, named in his honor, will improve access to mental health services and help ensure that all our veterans get the care they deserve. With tonight's passage in the Senate, we are one step closer to expanding access to mental health care for veterans in rural areas. I urge President Biden to sign this bill into law as soon as possible."
