Hinson Encourages Iowans to Participate in National Prescription Drug take Back Day Tomorrow

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following statement encouraging Iowans to participate in National Prescription Drug Takeback Day tomorrow, April 24th, 2021. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drug overdose deaths have spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic and data from the Iowa Department of Public Health has also shown an increase in opioid-related deaths in Iowa last year. 

The most recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2019) revealed that misused prescription drugs are frequently obtained from home medicine cabinets. 

"Preventing dangerous drugs from falling into the wrong hands can start with cleaning out your medicine cabinet. I encourage folks to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day as we work together to combat the opioid epidemic and keep our communities safe." -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
