Hinson Introduces Legislation to Save President Trump's Deregulation Agenda

April 13, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) introduced the Red Tape Reduction Act, legislation that codifies and protects five of President Trump's most impactful deregulatory executive orders.

“President Trump worked to unravel the regulatory web in Washington and pull back the heavy hand of government that hurts small businesses, farmers, and workers. Coupled with tax cuts, this unleashed the strongest economy in modern history. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has rescinded many successful deregulatory policies and is embracing a big government mindset that will pull down our economy when we most need growth and hurt rural communities in Iowa. That's why I introduced legislation to save President Trump's deregulatory agenda and make his pro-growth policies permanent."  -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

“Unreasonable regulations from the federal government make it harder on our small business to operate. These requirements often make absolutely no sense and do far more harm than good. Now, more than ever, we need the government to get out of the way and stay out of the way. I appreciate that Representative Hinson is listening to the needs of small businesses in Iowa and is leading on policies that will help us grow.” -Cedar Rapids Small Business Owner, Jerry Akers

The Red Tape Reduction Act will save five of President Trump's Deregulation Executive Orders:

Executive Order 13771 – Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs
For every one regulation issued by an Executive department or agency, at least two prior regulations must be eliminated.

Executive Order 13777 - Enforcing the Regulatory Reform Agenda
Requires each agency to establish an official as its Regulatory Reform Officer (RRO) to oversee implementation of regulatory reform and evaluate existing regulations for job creation, effectiveness, and cost/benefit analyses.

Executive Order 13891 – Promoting the Rule of Law Through Improved Agency Guidance Documents
Prohibits federal agencies from issuing binding rules through guidance documents without approval from Congress.

Executive Order 13892 – Promoting the Rule of Law Through Transparency and Fairness in Civil Administrative Enforcement and Adjudication
Requires agencies to be transparent by providing public and fair notice of any regulation an agency will be applying and enforcing, in order to prevent administrative abuses.

Executive Order 13893 – Increasing Government Accountability for Administrative Actions by Reinvigorating Administrative PAYGO
Requires agencies to find a ay to cut spending when they put forward a proposal to increase spending.
