Hinson, Pingree Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Honor Women Ag Producers

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) has partnered with Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME-01) to introduce a bipartisan House resolution designating 2026 as the 'International Year of the Woman Farmer.’ The resolution honors the role women play in agriculture, celebrates their positive impact in the workforce, and supports women pursuing careers in agriculture. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced companion legislation, and it passed out of the Senate on Friday.

Background on the profound impact women have in agriculture: 

• Women lead and support the agriculture industry across boardrooms, research labs, co-ops, and farmland, making vital contributions at every level.
• According to the 2022 Census of Agriculture, the United States had 1.2 million female producers, accounting for 36% of the country’s total producers. Additionally, 58% of all farms had a female producer. These farms accounted for 41% of U.S. agriculture sales and 46% of total U.S. farmland. In 2022 alone, farms with one or more female producers sold $222 billion in agricultural products.
• In Rep. Hinson’s district, almost one-third of farmers are women.
