Hinson Reintroduces Bipartisan Bill to Help New Parents Avoid Surprise Medical Bills

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) reintroduced the bipartisan No Surprise Bills for New Moms Act alongside Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY-12), legislation that would ensure parents do not receive surprise medical bills for their newborns.

This bipartisan bill holds insurance companies accountable, ensures newborns have seamless coverage, and gives new parents one less thing to worry about so they can focus on keeping their babies healthy and happy.” — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

The No Surprise Bills for New Moms Act would:

• Require health insurers to automatically provide coverage to newborns under their mother’s insurance for 30 days after birth.
• Establish a 60-day enrollment period after those first 30 days, giving families additional time to enroll their newborn in a health insurance plan.
• Require health plans and insurers to notify parents if they receive a bill for an uncovered newborn.

Hinson has consistently championed pro-family policies that make life easier for Iowa families. This reintroduction builds on her broader bipartisan work to support Iowa families, including expanding access to affordable childcare and strengthening support for mothers and infants.
