Hinson Secures $5 Million for Port of Dubuque
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following statement upon securing $5 million dollars to upgrade the Gavilon Marine Port and Rail Facility at Dove Harbor Terminal at the Port of Dubuque.
"The historic Port of Dubuque is critical to our agriculture export and tourism economy along the Mississippi River, and this infrastructure investment will ensure the port can continue to grow and thrive. I had several conversations with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg regarding the importance of our Mississippi River ports, and I want to thank him for working with me to ensure Dubuque received the resources needed to upgrade the port. This will help create new jobs and opportunities in Northeast Iowa, and I will continue working to deliver critical infrastructure investments like this one for our district." -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
“The City of Dubuque is pleased to learn that we have successfully secured a $5 million USDOT INFRA grant for improvements at the Gavilon site on our river front. Rail and portside improvements create local jobs and provide greater access to global markets for Iowa products. We are grateful for the support of our federal partners.” -Mayor Roy D. Buol, Mayor of Dubuque
Background

- Replace and upgrade approximately 7,300 feet of inoperable rail track.
- Relocate approximately 2,800 feet of rail track to support direct transfer/transloading of fertilizer and other bulk products from river barge to rail.
- Install new rail equipment, including a main line switch, loadout system and shed, and rail-to-barge direct transfer system.
Hinson serves on the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies, which has jurisdiction over funding to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
