Hinson Secures Key Win for Dubuque Regional Airport in House Appropriations Committee
Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) secured a provision in the House Appropriations Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development bill to ensure Dubuque, having recently lost commercial airline service, is prioritized for federal grants under the Small Community Air Service Development Program. This legislation passed the House Appropriations Committee today and is awaiting consideration by the full U.S. House of Representatives.
The provision requires the federal government to account for the elimination or reduction of commercial air service at airports located in Metropolitan Statistical Area cities in rural states when awarding Small Community Air Service Development grants. In 2021, Hinson used her seat on the House Appropriations Committee to ensure Dubuque kept its status as a Metropolitan Statistical Area.
“I will leave no stone unturned to bring commercial air service back to Dubuque. I was proud to secure this key win in the House Appropriations Committee to ensure Dubuque is prioritized for federal air service grants going forward. This is an important step toward restoring commercial air service to Dubuque, bringing economic development opportunities to the region, and keeping this community thriving." - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
