Hinson Statement on Biden Visit, Summer Sale of E-15

April 13, 2022

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the below statement on President Biden's announcement that the Administration will allow the sale of E-15 during the summer.

"Finally allowing the sale of E-15 in the summer is good, but long overdue, news. The President should permanently make E-15 available year-round, and Iowa biofuels should be front and center in an all-of-the-above energy strategy that will bring costs down, bolster our fuel supply, and restore American energy independence long-term.

"While this is a positive step, President Biden must reverse course on the rest of his harmful agenda. Iowans need the President to secure our border, work to bring prices down, and provide long-term solutions to the energy affordability crisis created under his Administration." -
Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

Hinson has long advocated for the permanent, year-round sale of E-15 as part of an all-of-the-above energy strategy and for the Biden Administration to fully utilize Iowa biofuels.

  • In July of 2021, Hinson helped introduce the bipartisan year-Round Fuel Choice Act to allow the sale of E-15 during the summer.
  • In January of 2022, Hinson called on the Administration to adopt an all-of-the-above energy strategy that prioritized biofuels and included legislation that would allow the sale of E-15 year-round.
  • In March of 2022, Hinson wrote to President Biden and EPA Administrator Michael Regan, calling on the Administration to immediately grant a nationwide waiver to allow the sale of E-15 during the summer.
  • In March of 2022, Hinson helped introduce  the bipartisan Home Front Energy Independence Act, bipartisan legislation that would make E-15 available year-round, establish and E-15 tax credit, and direct the EPA to finalize their E-15 labeling rule.
