Hinson Supports FY24 NDAA to Counter China & Give Troops a Raise

December 14, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the following statement in support of the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"The FY24 NDAA provides our servicemembers with a well-deserved pay raise  the highest in 20 years and expands our defense and deterrence capabilities to counter China's aggression and support our freedom-loving allies like Taiwan and Israel. Additionally, the NDAA eliminates wokeness from our military and invests in the cutting edge technologies to best equip our troops against growing global threats. I will continue advocating for a strong national defense, supporting our troops, and working to re-establish the peace through strength doctrine to keep America safe." - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

The FY24 NDAA authorizes $886.3 billion for national defense discretionary programs including:

  • Enhancing U.S. deterrence and strengthening capabilities to counter the CCP’s aggression in the Indo-Pacific by strengthening supply chains and reaffirming U.S. support for the defense of Taiwan and Pacific allies.
  • Providing a 5.2% increase in basic pay for servicemembers.
  • Enhancing DoD support for border security by fully funding the National Guard to support border deployment and combating illegal drug trafficking.
  • Continuing to prohibit any COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

The FY24 NDAA saves $40 billion by:

  • Cutting inefficient defense programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy.
  • Ending wokeness in our military by resetting the DoD’s mission and prohibiting funding for Critical Race Theory, ends Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), includes a Parents Bill of Rights to ensure parents of children in DoD schools are included in their child’s education, and prevents military Green New Deal.
