Hinson Supports NDAA
Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) released the following statement in support of the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“The United States military is the greatest fighting force in the world, and the men and women who serve our country in uniform represent the best of our nation.
"I worry that our adversaries, namely Communist China, are rapidly developing their defenses and military capabilities while our military has gotten bogged down in woke politics that have hurt our readiness and recruitment. This year's NDAA eliminates wokeness from our military and invests in the cutting edge technologies and capabilities necessary to ensure we can thwart our enemies, improve deterrence, and re-establish the peace through strength doctrine.
"Additionally, this legislation provides a well-deserved pay raise for our troops and supports our military families. I will continue advocating for a strong national defense that keeps America safe."
NDAA highlights include:
- Fully funds our national defense while cutting costs and improving efficiency by authorizing $886.3 billion for national defense discretionary programs and saving nearly $40 billion by cutting inefficient programs, obsolete weapons, and unnecessary bureaucracy in the Pentagon.
- Supports servicemembers and their families by including a 5.2% pay increase in servicemember pay and extending recruitment and retention bonuses.
- Cuts funding for woke initiatives in the military and returns focus to battle-ready training.
- Prohibits funds going towards the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and prohibits funds towards any advisory committee dealing with CRT.
- Repeals the DoD Chief Diversity officer and requires the Secretary to validate the need for every position in the DEI bureaucracy.
- Prohibits funds for drag shows on military bases.
- Includes a Parents Bill of Rights for servicemembers to ensure military parents’ right to review curriculum, meet with teachers, and provide consent before any medical exams or screenings at school.
- Counters aggression from the Chinese Communist Party.
- Requires that DoD ensures military fuel providers are not owned by the CCP, and mitigate potential threats posed by the purchase by CCP-backed entities of land near military installations.
- Increases funding for innovative technologies like AI, autonomous systems, cyber, mobile micronuclear reactors, and high energy lasers to meet and defeat China’s pacing threat.
- Improves training and development of the workforce to accelerate Foreign Military Sales deliveries to Taiwan and other key partners.
- Prohibits DoD from contracting with the Ecohealth Alliance, consulting firms with CCP-backed business, or any entity with CCP-backed transportation logistics software.
- Prevents the retirement of capabilities with remaining service life, including 5 battle ships and additional F-22 and C-130 aircraft.
- Invests in projection forces and shipyard infrastructure projects.
- Provides a pathway back to the armed forces for servicemembers who refused to take the COVID vaccine and continues to prohibit the DoD from mandating that servicemembers take the COVID-19 vaccine.
