"I’m proud of this community for coming together and doing all they can to keep everyone safe and prevent damage to the extent possible. I’ll keep working at the federal level to ensure Iowans have the resources we need to prepare for future flooding and repair any damage." -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

Rep. Hinson has prioritized flood mitigation and disaster relief efforts in Congress.

  • Hinson secured $275.5 million to update flood mapping in the FY22 Homeland Security Appropriations bill.
  • Hinson secured language directing FEMA to improve and be more transparent about the agency's Individual Assistance program intended to help individuals rebuild after disasters. This built upon a letter Rep. Hinson wrote to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell regarding issues Iowans were experiencing with the program.
  • As part of her work to bring federal and local stakeholders and experts together on this issue, Hinson facilitated a meeting with the American Flood Coalition, the Iowa Flood Resource Center, and Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation and Development to discuss innovative solutions to flooding.
