VIDEO RELEASE: Hinson Recaps First Term Serving Iowans in Congress

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson released the below video recapping her first term serving Iowa’s First Congressional District in Congress.

“I came to Congress to stand up for working families, ensure our farmers and rural America had a seat at the table, and to keep our communities safe. Together, we’ve delivered on these goals, and more,” said Rep. Hinson in her video message. “The people of Iowa are my only bosses, and for me, Iowa will always come first. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together in a short time, and look forward to building on these successes in the new Congress.”

Background: 

  • Hinson introduced 28 bills this Congress, including bills to improve access to child care, create a pro-growth regulatory environment, and ban former public servants from lobbying.
    • Hinson’s bipartisan PRECISE Act, legislation that empowers farmers with conservation tools and techniques, passed the House. 
  • As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Hinson has secured targeted funding for Iowa’s priorities, while pushing back against wasteful spending. Hinson secured over $53 million for local projects, including: 
    •  $5 million to help complete Tower Terrace Road in Linn County
    • $45 million for the Navigation Ecosystem and Sustainability Program (NESP) along the Upper Mississippi River 
    • $100,000 to help complete the Protivin Community Fire District in Howard County 

Hinson helped introduce three pieces of legislation that were signed into law. 

Hinson and her team put constituent service first.

  • Her team of dedicated caseworkers helped Iowans solve problems related to the federal government, closing over 3,500 constituent cases in the 117th Congress.

Hinson fulfilled her promise to be transparent, accessible, and responsive to those she serves. 

  • Hinson visited every county in Iowa’s First Congressional District at least eight times.
  • Hinson and her team responded to approximately 60,000 constituent calls and e-mails this Congress.
  • Hinson held 20 in-person town halls, one in every county of the First Congressional District.
  • Hinson hosted fourteen virtual town halls events.
  • Hinson hosted 90 press calls open to members of the Iowa media.
