Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) helped introduce hallmark legislation to give the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) jurisdiction over all land purchases by foreign adversary entities and require mandatory CFIUS filing for foreign adversary entities making land purchases near sensitive sites, including all military facilities. This bill, led by Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI-08) and Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA-04), would mark the first change to CFIUS' mandate since 2018.

Representatives Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) and Alma Adams (D-NC-12) joined forces with Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) to announce the introduction of the bipartisan, bicameral Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act of 2023. One out of 75 U.S. births tragically result in stillbirth, accounting for nearly 21,000 stillbirths a year — more stillbirths annually than the number of babies who pass during the first year of life.

Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) introduced the bicameral Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act with Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA-03). Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) introduced the Senate version of the bill with support from Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA). The legislation will prohibit state and local governments from interfering with the production or manufacture of agricultural products in other states.

Congresswomen Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) and her colleagues on the Select Committee on Competition with the Chinese Communist Party sent a letter to Secretary Antony Blinken calling on the Administration not to renew the Agreement Between the United States and the People’s Republic of China on Cooperation in Science and Technology (STA) that will expire on August 27, 2023. The lawmakers cite concern that the Chinese Communist Party has previously leveraged the STA to advance its military objectives and will continue to do so.
